With the help of his wife and son, Mike Klink runs 350 cow-calf pairs on rolling pastures in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, where they have an average annual rainfall of about 10inches.

Mike is thrilled with his Tru-Test weigh scale system, and was surprised at how simple it was to set-up. “Weinstalled the Tru-Test indicator and load bars in the chute ahead of the squeeze, to weigh for individual performance, and it was all very easy to install.”

“We started using the XR3000 indicator as soon as we got it set up, with very few problems. As with any new set up there was a short learning curve at the start. is was made a whole lot easier with the comprehensive manual and easy to navigate on screen help menu. e XR3000 is very user friendly.”

Once installed, Mike took the time to check the accuracy of the setup. “We weighed some cattle here before taking them to a government approved weigh scale to compare. Had no problems whatsoever.”

Mike likes the versatility of Tru-Test load bars too. “Later we got a 2nd set of load bars to put under a 75 bushel feed hopper bin mounted in the back of a truck to feed grain in feed bunks. It runs perfectly and with the weigh scale mounted on the feed truck we can regulate the amount of grain being fed without the huge expense of a commercial feed unit.”

At Tru-Test, we believe that measurement equals greater control, and greater control equals greater profit. Mike agrees. “Weighing just has so many benefits for us. Forinstance, we weigh calves at weaning and periodically while on feed, to help balance the ration and get the daily rate of gain that we want.”

“ Then we also use the weaning and yearling weights as a tool to rank the cows for culling purposes and to pick replacement heifers.”

And for Mike, what's most important is when Tru-Test weighing products truly help increase profits.

“We sell the yearlings straight off the ranch so it’s valuable for us to know the exact weight of animals when we’re negotiating the best possible price with buyers. The Tru-Test weigh scale is so accurate that we have repeat buyers simply payus on the weight that we get at the chute, no questions asked.”
